A sweet (dessert) wine from the Baumard family’s winery in the Loire Valley, Western France.
The Chenin Blanc grapes are grown in a vineyard on the slopes (‘coteaux’) of the Layon river, which runs into the Loire. The grapes are left on the vines very late, which allows them to become super-ripe and so very sweet. It is light and zesty with flavours of apricot, candied lemon, marmalade and a clean, refreshing finish. It’s good with fresh fruit (like melon or peaches), all types of cheese (but especially blue cheese), and particularly paté and foie gras. Try it with starters as well as puddings!
